Firefighter and the Firehouse
Being a firefighter takes work and dedication. A firefighter will have responsibilities around the firehouse in addition to going to fire calls. The firehouse is a building that is set aside for storage. The firehouse is home to all firefighter equipment (fire extinguishers, fire hoses) firefighter protective gear and of course fire truck and other emergency vehicles. The firehouse may also have dormitory living facilities and work areas such as meeting rooms, workshop, or laundry for on call firefighters. Living areas are sometimes arranged above the garage bays where a firefighter without specific station duties during the night shift is allowed to sleep unless a dispatch is called.
Activities in a firehouse normally include regualr inspection and cleaning of all firefighter equipment and gear. A firefighter will also have to go to the firehouse for continuing education in fire service. A firehouse usually hosts weekly or biweekly firefighter drills so that every member of the firehouse is always at the top of their game. Some firehouses also host activites during fire prevention week to promote awareness of fire safety.
