Paramedics and Ambulance Services

A paramedic is a medical professional who most often provides pre-hospital care through ambulance services or other emergency transportation. A paramedic varies in title depending on jurisdiction but is known through out as an individual who is part of ambulance services. A paramedic is responsible for providing emergency on site medical attention, and when needed transportation through ambulance services to a local hospital.

A paramedic can either be at an intermediate or advanced level. An intermediate paramedic has just begun the extensive training program and has completed the minimum amount of course work to be a paramedic.

An advanced paramedic has had extensive training and is proficient in all areas of the ambulance services. Ambulance services provide individuals with immediate medical attention, on-site and provide transportation to the nearest hospital for further examination. A paramedic must have a good driving record in addition to passing the required course work before becoming part of ambulance services. In addition to the coursework required of ambulance services must also pass the comprehensive list of standards delegated by the CAAS, Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services. All ambulance services must go through this process every 3 years.
